You could be forgiven for thinking that the Waldorf Astoria’s Trianon Palace has been a part of the Versailles landscape for far longer than it actually has. Architect René Sergent paid a great deal of attention to its construction and ensured this fabulous hotel blended in with the architecture of the Royal palace. When it opened in 1910 it was nothing short of a triumph. Today, it’s lost nothing of its early glamour. In its well-appointed rooms, an elegant colour palette of soft greys is accentuated with rich mulberry or ochre accents. Public spaces feature black and white tiled floors, dazzling chandeliers and plush armchairs upholstered in olive green velvet. The crowning glory is a spacious heated indoor pool under a glass lantern roof, plus a Guerlain spa.
Guests who opt to stay here rather than in downtown Paris undoubtedly do so for the setting. Rooms and suites overlook the exquisitely landscaped gardens of the Versailles estate. Reserve the Terrace Suite and you’ll be treated to a view of the palace itself.
