Covered by Sintra’s UNESCO listing, this exquisite luxury hotel began life in the late 18th century as a residence for the then Dutch consul. A few years later, the palace was sold and enlarged into the U-shaped building you see today. The neoclassical arch joined the two wings in 1802, constructed in honour of a Royal visit. These days, it’s one of Portugal’s best hotels and many of its original features have been preserved. Managed by the NH Hoteles group, inside you’ll find beautiful tapestries and fresco paintings based on the work of 18th-century artist, Jean-Baptiste Pillement. There’s a wonderful outdoor pool and Anantara spa as well as landscaped grounds with a maze.
30 rooms spread across two floors boast Nespresso machines, fluffy bathrobes and free WiFi alongside their heritage features. The deluxe rooms and diplomatic suite benefit from butler service for the ultimate luxury.
