When he created Upper House, architect Andre Fu envisaged a sleek, contemporary property which would become a retreat for those privileged to stay in it. An oasis of calm from the noise and bustle of the city, it nevertheless feels connected to its surroundings, not least thanks to the breathtaking views from its windows. Design is at the forefront of everything. From the minute you walk through the floating glass box lobby to the ascent in the Torii-gate inspired elevator, a stay here is a treat for the eyes. Natural materials such as bamboo, timber, shoji glass, limestone and lacquered paper are both beautiful and functional. Its studios and suites aim to be as comfortable as your own home yet with the added bonus of attentive staff who work hard to ensure you don’t have to lift a finger.
Space is a highly-prized commodity in somewhere as crowded as Hong Kong, which is one of the reasons why splurging on a larger room is such a luxury. The hotel’s Upper Suites utilise natural materials to create a bedroom and living space which is soothing and re-energising after a tiring day in this frenetic city.
