The Swiss mountain lodge was reinvented for the modern traveller by the late New York architect Ali Tayar and in Omnia, it never looked better. Sleek and contemporary, its glass and larch wood façade impresses almost as much as the uninterrupted views of the Matterhorn from some of its rooms. Furnishings are minimalist but the emphasis is on comfort, with huge beds boasting memory foam mattresses to ensure a good night’s sleep. The restaurant is cosy thanks to its real wood fire. Chef Hauke Pohl skilfully combines local Alpine and seasonal ingredients to create a menu that’s mouth-wateringly exciting. Enjoying drinks or snacks on the Terrace with a view of the Matterhorn is equally lovely.
The hotel focuses on wellness, with an indoor/outdoor pool, Finnish sauna, Turkish bath, caldarium, petal steam room, relaxation room and outdoor whirlpool overlooking Zermatt and the Matterhorn. Technogym equipment, yoga and Pilates also help guests remain in tip-top shape.
