One Devonshire Gardens is a favourite of the A-list celebrity crowd. Among those who have stayed here are George Clooney, Michael Jackson, Kylie Minogue, Britney Spears and Gwyneth Paltrow. Since 2006 it has been owned and managed as part of the Hotel du Vin chain. It comprises a terrace of five townhouses dating from the 1870s which have gradually been acquired over the years. Today, it has 49 rooms, but still retains the luxe boutique feel of the original hotel. Modern fittings enhance the authentic period features to create spaces that are comfortable, unique and exceptionally well designed – think handsprung mattresses, Egyptian cotton bed linen, powerful showers, bath tubs by fireplaces and jewel bright cushions and upholstery. The hotel’s signature Tasting Menu created by Head Chef Gary Townsend is a triumph. Local Scottish influences enhance an imaginative and above all delicious menu. The wine cellar boasts 600 bins, and to sample all the 300 whiskies on offer is going to take considerably more than one visit.
